Robert Buchanan is a professor and director of UMD’s Center for Food Safety and Security Systems. He has 30 years of experience teaching and conducting research in food safety. His scientific interests include predictive microbiology, quantitative microbial risk assessment, microbial physiology, mycotoxicology, and hazard analysis and critical control points systems. 

His expertise has been featured in a variety of media outlets, including TIME, MSNBC and USA Today. He has been widely published on a range of subjects related to food safety and is one of the co-developers of the USDA Pathogen Modeling Program.
