The 297-room, four-diamond hotel unveils bold interior renderings

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Hotel at the University of Maryland released today interior renderings for its lobby, guest rooms, restaurant and meeting space, moving one step closer to a December 2016 opening in downtown College Park. The construction is under way on the $150 million project.

The hotel and conference center will be built on a parcel of land on the east side of campus opposite Turner Hall. This project is the cornerstone to the University’s vision to encourage redevelopment of the existing downtown College Park business district along the Route 1 corridor.

"Even before it's built, the hotel and conference center is providing a major stimulus to the development of College Park," said University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh. "Through his vision and commitment, David Hillman is rejuvenating an entire zip code."

“We are pleased to be a contributing partner to this venture during a very exciting time in College Park,” said Marvin Rabovsky, Chair of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation Board of Trustees. “Revitalization efforts are forging ahead, and progress and development at The Hotel at the University of Maryland is just the beginning.”

The renderings released today reveal a design that is contemporary and bold with rich, natural materials and textures. There are a multitude of open seating areas and large-scale fireplaces throughout the entire hotel, intended to strike a balance between grand style and coziness.  One of the focal points of the main lobby is a two-story water feature sculpture created by local artists and a bar with a back lit glass front flanked with Calcutta Gold white marble structural walls.

“We are excited at the progress and advancements we have made on The Hotel at the University of Maryland,” said developer David H. Hillman of Southern Management Corporation. “The interior design is fresh and sophisticated, respecting the tradition of its surroundings while setting the right tone for a reimagined and enhanced downtown College Park. We look forward to opening to the community in December 2016.”

Amenities and features of the hotel will include:

  • 297 guest rooms with executive level and premium suites;
  • Rooftop banquet facility and terrace overlooking the UMD campus;
  • 43,000 square ft. of flexible meeting space capable of hosting events for as many as 1,500 guests;

  • Full lobby bar;
  • Indoor/outdoor pool, fully equipped fitness center,
