University of Maryland to Host Spring 2017 Commencement

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The class of 2017 will celebrate the culmination of their University of Maryland experience as they arrive in caps and gowns to officially become college graduates on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Xfinity Center. The University of Maryland will award 6,051 bachelor’s degrees, 1,732 master’s degrees and 585 doctoral degrees.

WHAT:

This year’s spring commencement will feature an address from UMD alumnus and Apex Entertainment Founder and CEO Mark Ciardi ‘83. University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh will also take the podium to congratulate the graduates.

Shuping Yang, graduating with dual degrees in theatre and psychology and a minor in German, will deliver the student remarks. Gregory Ridgway, the University Medalist who is graduating with degrees in physics, mathematics, and piano performance, will also address his fellow graduates.

PARKING/CHECK-IN:

To ensure parking and access to the commencement ceremony, media must RSVP to mediainfo@umd.edu. Media must park in the loading dock at Xfinity Center and show their credentials in order to receive a media ticket for the event.

Risers, tables and a mult box will be available to media.
