University of Maryland Unveils New Mascot: TECHtudo

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland announces today the thrilling reveal of TECHtudo, an inspiring upgrade from the loveable former mascot, Testudo. This new mascot truly embodies the spirit of “fearless ideas” and the innovation and entrepreneurship force that drives the university.

TECHtudo is a better, faster, stronger, and more fearless presence on all levels. TECHtudo will help distinguish the University of Maryland as one of the most innovative, entrepreneurial, and technologically advanced universities in the world.

The new mascot is unveiled in a video featuring President Wallace D. Loh as the university kicks off its 4th annual 30 Days of EnTERPreneurship on April 1. 30 Days showcases the university’s commitment to fearless ideas through a series of events and competitions that ignite the entrepreneurial spirit of the campus community. “Our University is one of the most innovative, entrepreneurial, and technologically advanced in the world, and I think everything we do must reflect our cutting edge mission,” declares President Loh. “We have the technology; we have the capability, to make the world’s finest mascot. Every day at UMD, leaders foster a culture of entrepreneurship campus-wide, as innovation is among the highest strategic priorities for the President and Provost. UMD’s Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship has a mission to engage all 37,000 students across all 12 colleges and schools in innovation and entrepreneurship. UMD offers 101 entrepreneurship related courses across 31 departments.
